NO KINGS

Hello CRAGgys!
Please continue sharing what you're learning, connecting with allies, and passing on tips on local impacts or concerns.
NO KINGS
Saturday, June 14th is NO KINGS Day with marches and actions planned across the country. (but, notably not in Washington, DC, where another event is scheduled; we hope those streets will be empty).
Print a sign or download a logo from the NO KINGS site.
Houghton
- Local groups will participate in the Bridgefest Parade, Friday, June 13th, 7 pm. Keweenaw Indivisible has built a Robin Hood float; Houghton County Dems and League of Women voters will both be marching.
- On Saturday, those groups will have tables; Keweenaw Indivisible will have NO KINGS buttons. Talk to your neighbors! Wear your Yoopers Unite t-shirt (more have been printed). As you engage with people at Bridgefest, try these key messages:
key messages
- He’s using OUR tax dollars to pay for HIS party.
- President Trump’s birthday celebration is expected to cost millions of our tax dollars, all while Republicans claim there’s no money for Social Security, SNAP, or Medicaid.
- We are united against kings.
- President Trump has already indicated that he’s aiming for at least a third term, and now he’s planning a self-aggrandizing military parade in D.C But the American people don’t put up with kings. Together, we will mobilize in huge numbers to reject this corruption and abuse of power—it’s in our DNA as a country.
- They’ve gone too far.
- This is bigger than political disagreement. They’ve defied our courts, deported American citizens, disappeared people off the streets, and slashed our services—all while orchestrating a massive giveaway to their billionaire allies. Enough is enough. For anyone who thinks he’s gone too far, this movement is for you.
- The Army’s birthday isn’t about parades or pageantry — it marks the beginning of America’s rejection of kings.
- On June 14, 1775, the Continental Congress created the U.S. Army to stand up against a monarch who claimed absolute power. 250 years later, President Trump wants to twist that legacy into a personal celebration of himself.
- That’s why we say: No Thrones. No Crowns. No Kings.
- No Kings is about defending the ideals they fought for. This country doesn’t belong to strongmen. It belongs to the people.

- Decline to Sign. Watch out for anti-voter rights petitions. Two groups are about to start soliciting signatures to add repressive "proof of citizenship" language to the Michigan constitution. DO NOT SIGN THESE PETITIONS.
- Disability Rights are under attack by a proposed DOE rule. Submit comments by June 15th to protect accessibility in new buildings. Details, and how to comment.
NOTES from recent meetings
I spoke at Houghton County and Hancock Township. At both venues I focused on DOGE. Beth F. also spoke at the Hancock meeting.
Houghton County surprise.
- On Tuesday Houghton County voted 3-2 to support "Resolution 25-08. To Oppose Proposed Cuts to Medicaid by the Federal Government". This was brought by clerk Jennifer Kelly, who got it at the UPCAP Conference-Commissioner's Conference. She says they are encouraging all UP counties to support it. Watch for this to come to your county and show up to support it!Wa

Why and how to attend local meetings
CRAG started with a plea for people to get out to talk to our local public officials. The crisis in democracy spans the spectrum from the very top down to local voters who elected them. Let me know your views and experiences about why local democracy is critical.
Lots of opportunities next week calendar; view in browser for the embedded version. (sorry, it doesn't show up in email.)
Hints on using the calendar: switch view format on the upper right, download a pdf with the 🖨️ icon, upper left. Select subcalendars (meetings, demos, etc) with >> on the upper left.
How can we get you out to your township/county/other meetings?
