1. Reports on today's meetingsCRAG keeps showing up!
- Adams Twp Board, March 10
- Keren T. attended and reports: "I walked to the Adams Twp meeting last night and voiced concern about the potential dismantling of federal programs and grants that could deeply impact residents and the township's ability to deliver services. I had prepared a short letter, but it was so informal that I chose to speak from the cuff rather than read. I mentioned concern about the future of Medicaid, Medicare, VA benefits, Social Security, food assistance, jobs and projects linked to federal funds. Township Supervisor Gerry Heikkinen seemed sympathetic and expressed some of his own concern, but also seemed to be of the mind that Bergman and Markinnen would tell them if/when things were at risk rather than vice versa. I did say my concern was that these things were happening outside of congressional oversight." Thanks for going!
- March 11th, noon. Schoolcraft Twp. 226 Front St., Lake Linden.
- Joan C. attended. I've posted her notes in the substack archive.
- March 11th, 3 pm. Houghton Country Commissioners.
- Sarah attended. I made (somewhat irrelevant) comments about lies being spread by the administration.
2. Upcoming Local Township/city meetingsWe are trying to get someone to speak up at every possible local meeting. Stand up, say your piece How are government actions affecting you? How do they hurt your community? You don't have to say a lot; some people just say a sentence or two "I'm worried about Medicaid cuts"; "I don't want Elon Musk having access to my private data."
As examples, my statements to all bodies are posted on Substack. (I can post yours, too, if you want to share.)
- Today, March 12th, Houghton City Council, 5:30 pm
- It would be nice for people to show up and express appreciation for their recent resolution
- March 19th, 6 pm Torch Lake Township board at the Hubbell Community Building in Hubbell.
- Valorie Troesch will attend and plans to speak.
- March 19th, 6 pm Hancock City Council
